The Caretakers of the Universe sound off on becoming a hero in their own backyard.

The Earth and Communities of Faith

89% of American adults (about 225 million people) and an additional 48 million young people claim a connection to a faith-based community - one of the 360,000 churches and 3,500 synagogues in the U.S. The interest in environmental issues among this group is high: a recent Barna survey (August 2008) uncovered that 75% of self-identified Christians agreed that they would like to see fellow believers take a more active role in caring for the environment in a way that is both informed and Biblical. At the same time, 65% had never been exposed to any teaching about how the faith-based community should respond to environmental issues. Many distrusted the modern environmental movement, based on concerns about media objectivity.

The Green Light Project

The Green Light Project is a national, faith-based initiative that enables tens of thousands of faith communities to embark on a four-week journey shedding light and equipping participants to clearly answer the question,

How do I take care of the earth?

This journey is guided by a unique set of curricula fashioned for group use as a faith family, youth group or a group meeting in homes for the purpose of understanding the mandate we have to take care of the Earth.

Four Week Curriculum

In faith communities around the country, four weeks of each year will be devoted to cultivating a divine sense of responsibility to care for the Earth, teaching the science that enables individuals to look after the planet and laying out a plan for creating lifestyles that nurture the world around them. The Green Light Project provides a complete menu of training initiatives and resources for faith communities and their leaders to conduct the four-week campaign that concludes in a transition to new, sustainable lifestyles. God's Green America provides faith communities with leadership training and core resources to include adult curriculum, youth curriculum, the Green Light core book and group study guides.

Green Light Projects

The Green Light study concludes with practical applications guided by the curriculum. Green Light Projects range from green job training, waste management and local food initiatives, to energy efficiency makeovers for buildings. Project guides provide practical organizational information and a guide to financing that has been proven in practice.

Green Light Business provides companies around the United States with a complete menu of educational resources to educate and inspire employees to rethink their relationship to the earth and their responsibility to the world around them.
