Eco Designer Abi Ferrin Partners with God’s Green America to Mobilize Green Accountability at Funkshion Fashion Week

On the eve of Funkshion Fashion Week Miami Beach, October 14-18, 2009, eco-designer Abi Ferrin joined with God’s Green America in a mission to mobilize Americans to think differently about the Earth and their relationship to it. Only six percent of Americans use sustainable tactics in the home. Ferrin and God’s Green America will participate in joint events to create new thinking in the American home about function, fashion and sustainability.
Ferrin, who employs green strategies both in her manufacturing and design comments, “We model by using environmental practices everywhere possible in our manufacturing, certified recycled paper bags in our shop and hangtags - all of which are an example of what can take place in every corner of the country. We share the unique vision of God’s Green America.”
The difference between Abi Ferrin and the standard definition of eco-fashion is where the money meets the rain forest. Ferrin achieves “Fashion with Freedom and Purpose” by getting her hands dirty, traveling from Costa Rica to Nepal in search of ways to employ impoverished women and free them from the oppression of slavery and poverty. Working with the Freedom Project in July 2009, Abi met with women in Costa Rica to discuss training and resources required to employ their skills in manufacturing her next clothing line. In Nepal, women have been snatched from the human trafficking trade and employed to create handmade buttons for Abi’s designs.
“Abi Ferrin is a perfect example of how one person thinking differently about the Earth makes a difference,” states God’s Green America Managing Director Megan Black. “Ferrin’s designs represent the abundance of nature and her philosophy represents the heart of what we aim to accomplish with God’s Green America – to inspire a shift in mindset toward a greener lifestyle.”
The inspiration for her Spring 2009 Genesis Collection came from the waterfalls and canopy of green in the rainforest of Costa Rica and her Fall 2009 Collection will be shown at the Funkshion Fashion Week in Miami. Check out her designs and her online store at www.abiferrin.com.
